Methodology & Science
Every calculator on FloraNumbers is backed by published agricultural formulas and container substrate physics.
1. Container Volume Calculation
Calculated geometrically based on interior planter dimensions:
- Cylinder: $V = \pi \times r^2 \times h$
- Tapered Round (Truncated Cone): $V = \frac13 \pi h (r_1^2 + r_1 r_2 + r_2^2)$
- Rectangular Trough: $V = l \times w \times h$
2. Deep Drench Watering & Drainage Flush
Container substrates hold water via capillary tension. We compute baseline saturation volume at ~15% of pot volume with a +10% runoff buffer to effectively flush salt deposits without inducing hypoxia.
3. Fertilizer PPM & Elemental Dilution
Nutrient concentrations are derived using elemental conversions from oxide guarantees ($P_2O_5 \times 0.4364 = P$, $K_2O \times 0.8302 = K$) to protect root hairs from osmotic shock.
